Winter is the perfect time to slow down, take stock, and look within. As a family, winter presents a great opportunity to spend valuable time with the people you love. While not everyone is a fan of the colder months, winter can be incredibly productive and fun when you give it a chance. From cosy evenings cooking to wild walks in the forest, let's take a look at some great winter activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Winter is a great time to stay at home and spend time with your partner and children. There are fewer expectations to be busy when it's cold outside, and more opportunities to spend time doing what you love. From cooking and baking adventures to kitchen-table arts and crafts, many activities can be shared with the people you love. While there's nothing wrong with a little screen time, kids normally welcome novel fun activities to keep them entertained over the winter months.

If you're brave enough to take a trip in the car, there are lots of fantastic indoor activities to enjoy throughout the year. From museums and art galleries to indoor play rooms and trampolining centres, indoor activities can be enjoyed in any weather conditions. The following activities will entertain kids of all ages, and they're also likely to bring out your inner child: ten pin bowling, mini golf, ice skating, indoor rock climbing, and escape rooms. If you don't have that much energy, cinemas, shows, and even shopping centres provide a warm welcoming environment during the winter months. ; ; ;

You don't have to spend all your time indoors, however, with winter a great time to explore the great outdoors. While lots of people avoid natural environments when it gets cold, winter can be the perfect time to hike, run, cycle, ski, and just generally have fun. If you like visiting national parks and botanical gardens, crowds are often down during winter, which can lead to a much nicer experience. If you live anywhere near the snow, winter is the ideal time to indulge in skiing, experience snowboarding, or soak up some fresh mountain scenery. Evening walks can be lots of fun during winter, just don't forget to pack your torch. ; ; ; ; ; ;

Keeping your kids active over winter can be challenging, but the cold weather doesn't have to be an excuse. There are lots of team sports operating over winter, from soccer and netball to rugby and AFL. If it's cold outside, you can keep everyone warm and dry with coats, hats, gloves, and wet weather gear. Beaches, rivers, and lakes take on a new personality during the winter months, with the right clothing helping to keep everyone warm. Kites are fun on windy days, gum boots are great for splashing around, and brave souls may even like to swim in icy waters to help them feel really alive. ; ; ; ;
